Our little Singer

I would never have guessed N's blocks lined up on the floor was a Xylophone. She was very quick to tell me though when I asked her to pick them up. So instead of tidying up my kitchen, we sang some songs instead. Ignore my horrible off-pitch voice.

I'm not sure why she would not sing the whole song herself, I guess she wanted us to duo them. hah

Kate adds to Twinkle Twinkle by sneezing. hah

We did Row Row your boat as well but we forgot the words and had to mumble through it, so I won't post that one. heh

Rainforest Discovery

We've been putting Kate in her bouncey chair since she was born, but it was not until this past week we started putting the bar on it. When I tried a couple of weeks ago she hated it. Since thing, something has clicked and now she loves it!

In fact she got so worked up/excited playing in it this morning that she upset herself. heh

She's Such a Tease

First, if you tired of listening to me talk about Kate's lack of sleep, this is your chance to skip this post.

So it was bliss, sweet wonderful bliss. Thursday night my wonderful daughter slept from 8.30pm until 2am! Then until 6am and was up for the morning at 7am. I told owen I could totally deal with being up at 7am if she slept from 8.30-2am and then until 6/7am each night.

But then the next night she was back to her old tricks of 9pm-12am, and woke up at 3am, 6am and 8.30am as well as repeating the same last night.

We'll see what tonight brings, I felt better the other day reading a blog where the author said her little guy at 10w was just starting to sleep longer then 3-4 hours at night. Now I know I'm not alone, but it always feels better to read how another mom's baby is not sleeping 10hrs a night.

Kate Discovers her fingers/fist

Kate is finally starting to move her hands with more purpose instead of just aimlessly flailing them around. Of course the first thing she does not that she has more control over her limbs is suck on her fingers/fist. lol

Here Kitty Kitty..

So, in my continued attempts to help Miss Kate sleep better at night, I bought her a grobag today. Little bugger never liked to be swaddled and she wont keep her blankets on her at night. We moved her from our room to her room a little over a week ago due her frequent wakings (mostly for Owen to be able to function at work the following day) and in doing so, I worried about her being cold at night bc her room is so chilly right now.

Anywho, as you can see, she was not overly impressed with it, even though I thought it was super cute! hah

But, after I picked her up and gave her a pacifier, she calmed down;

Did she go to sleep for her nap though? Nope. lol I ended up taking her out of it and taking her to the basement with me. Read: Gave Up. Did I mention that at the same time of attempting to get her to eat more during her night wakings, we are also trying to get her to nap in her crib during the day? hah yeah we are crazy like that.

I fed her and within a minute she fell asleep again (she had fallen asleep a few times in her crib but kept waking after 5-10m). Being the stubborn person I am, I scooped her up off the sofa and put her in her crib, w/o her blanket on her, w/o being in her grobag, nada. I was too scared any extra movement would jossle her awake. And guess what? She slept soundly for 3hrs. lol

Crazy girl. So now we have her eating more at night (4oz vs .5-1oz) due to actually making sure she was awake when we feed her, I'm hoping being warm in this grobag will also help.

For the record, she slept 10.30-1am and then 1.15am to a little after 5am last night. I'm hoping it will continue, bc really that's not bad vs up every hour.

Kate is Kicking our Collective Asses

oiy. For the last 4 nights Miss Kate has woke up at 2/3/4.30/5.30/8am. No joke. I thought that maybe her days/nights were mixed up? But yesterday she only napped from 1pm-5.30pm and a brief like 20m nap in the morning. The day before she slept 3hrs in the morning and 3 or 4hrs? in the afternoon and still woke up every hour.

She goes to sleep at 9.30-10pm then her first wake up of the night is usually 1 or 2am and from then on she wakes every hour to 1.5hrs. I was also thinking it was a formula issue, since we were trying different (cheaper) brands and they were giving her constipation issues. We have resolved that though and she still is not sleeping better.

I'm aware that she is only 2m old but really once every hour?? That just does not seem normal to me. I get that I had a 'perfect' sleeper the first time so this is probably a lot harder for me then if I'd had a shitty sleeper the first time, but still, if she can sleep for a 3-4hr interval during the day, then why not at night??

She does only eat 3oz at a feed, but she does the same during the day and can go longer stretches soooo...sigh

We are not about to attempt any sleep training at this young of an age, but man it's hitting us both hard. We put a bed in her room yesterday and now one of us will be sleeping in there with her until (if ever) her sleep cycles increase. It sucks not sleeping in the same bed as my husband for the first time in 4yrs. :0(

We were co-sleeping up until 2w ago, however one of us in the bed had to work at 7am and Kate waking woke him up even though I was feeding her. And while some would say "Big deal he can go back to sleep", when your kid is waking up so frequently, it definitely effects your sleep and your work day.

Hopefully things will balance out soon.

Fish'n

We went to Urban Treehouse this morning and had a great time! The biggest hit I think for Tash was the 'fishing hole'. hehe

Kate's Two Month Check Up.

Due to sleep deprivation, forgetfulness and just general disorganization, we missed Kate's 1 month check up. I don't think she's scared for life over it though. :p I did manage to book her for a 2m check up though. Too bad last night was our worse for sleep yet (both girls at that!) because by the time 3.30pm rolled around I was ready to go to bed.

Luckily the wait to see Dr. Fu was not that long and Tash only had 4 tantrums between the waiting room and the exam room. Did I mention she woke up at 4.30am and did not go back to sleep until 6am? Yeah, fun times for my little 3 yr old who was so tired by 3pm that just looking at her funny had her in tears.

Anywho, Dr. Fu is happy with Kate's progress. She weighed 8lbs 3oz December 28th and is now up to 11lbs 9oz, 22.5" and he did her head circumference as well, but I think I remembered it wrong. He was writing it down on a pc of paper, which made me think he was going to give it to me so I had to ask again just before he leave the room for the measurements. ha!

At Tash's two month check up she was a whopping 12lbs and 24". So Kate is just a teeny bit smaller. :0)

First Day of Pre-School

And can you believe it, I did not get a photo. hah Very unlike me. I was worried about drop off, thinking she'd cry when I tried to leave. Instead she freaked out when I tried to get her to put on her 'indoor' shoes. The Teacher said she did not have to if she did not want to, but next time perhaps I should let her chose her shoes. I was quick to let her know that those were the shoes N had picked out before we left the house. :p

In truth I cheated a bit. N was occupied with a little boy named J at the Little People Parking Garage when I made my escape.

When I arrived back 2hrs later she ran over to me, gave me a big hug and said "Mommy you came back! I missed you!" Made my heart melt. I think this whole pre-school thing will be good for both of us. :0)

My Wee Curly Babe..

B of Fresh Sugar sent me my Gallery of Kate's newborn session and as I suspected, I cried. She just seems sooo tiny then and so big now, even though she's "only" 7w old. In part as well, we are pretty sure she is our last baby, so the images are a bit bittersweet for me.

The Girls...

How did I get so lucky? :0)
