I can't believe she is 6 months old already! She started to wobbly sit unassisted at the first of May, and now, nearly the start of June, she is sitting for 5-10 mins on her own w/o wobble or falling over.
My little girl has also developed quite the personality. I can't not even count the number of photos I took before getting this one and 2 others of her smiling and looking at the camera. She's so alert, so if she's not looking out the window, she's watching the cat walk by, stuffing Mr. Bear's paw in her mouth, her hands in her mouth, her dress, her shirt. She does everything but look at the camera and smile. hehe
Yesterday we took her to get her 6 month pro photos done, and hopefully we'll see the results in a couple of weeks. I was not really thinking when I chose a 10:30am time (right at her nap time) but waking her up early so she'd go for a nap sooner did the trick and she was one smiling/happy/laughing little girl. :0)
We took Bug for her 4 month shots last night, which are a bit delayed as we were behind in getting her in for her 2 month shots. We had her weighed (8.5kg or 18lbs 13oz) and measured (26.5"!), then went in the room where the nurse explained what the shots were and talked to us about solids before she prepared the Bug for her needles.
She was a trooper, only cried for a short minute before she calmed down. I always feel so bad when we take her for shots, she gets so upset, but the Geek keeps re-assuring me they are for the best.
I can't believe though how much she's grown. Just 2 months ago when she had her 2 month shots done she was 15lbs 13oz and 24.75". She's growing so fast!
It was a pretty uneventful day. I woke up at 8am and went downstairs and started preparation for my friend's baby shower and did not stop until 1:45pm with 15 minutes to spare before the start time of her shower. After the shower ended, the Geek gave me Purdy's Hedgehog chocolates and we went to visit owen's aunt, then came home and I went right to bed.
Pretty exciting eh?
When we moved into the house, the kitchen cabinetry was this stale yellow, the hardware was gold knobs and the track lighting was probably as old as the house and at one point, we are guessing was white, but had turned a stale yellow to match the cabinets. :-P (the picture to the left does not show the stale cabinets, I've already painted them at the point of this picture)
I knew right away that I was going to paint the cabinetry and replace the hardware, but I figured i would not replace the track lighting for a while. I've seen several sets that I liked, but they were in the range of $100-$120 each for the ones I liked. Costco to the rescue, as they currently have ones I like that are only $30 a piece!
On Tuesday when I was there getting groceries I picked up two and the Geek and installed them last night. Sounds easy enough right? Not so easy. Well in the scheme of things, it is relatively easy to install track lighting, especially when the junction box is right there and that does not need to be installed. It's just a matter of connecting the black wire to the black and the white to the white. The difficult part comes when you are standing on a stool, chair or counter top, head twisted upside down, bits of paint from the popcorn ceiling (which I hate hate hate!) falling into your eyes.
It took us probably 45 minutes to install the first track. Connecting the wires, and then our arms aching as we lined up the holes with the screws and twisting the knobs on. I can truthfully say that the Geek is very happy to have the track lighting up and his current part in home improvement completed..for now. mauhaha

So in the last two weeks I've - painted the cabinetry, replaced the hardware from gold knobs to brushed silver and the track lighting. I'd like to still do the following eventually;
- Replace the counter tops
- Replace all the appliances
- Tear up the flooring and replace it with ceramic/stone tile
- Paint the walls
- Replace the chandelier over the dinning room table
Although we've only changed a few things in the kitchen, for me, it's made a world of difference.
After painting the bug's room, one would think I would have had enough of painting and taken a break. I was suppose to go to my friend's house today and help her paint her baby's room, but she cancelled, so I decided why not paint anyway?
I tore the Geek away from his computer game and put him to work painting the trim in the bug's room while I did the door and closet. I figured I had painted the entire room (minus the stripes, which my friend helped me) so it was time he helped out. Now I just have to go buy the chair rail and get it cut, do some touch ups and put up photos and such. This photo is from last weekend, but both curtain panels are white, the Geek decided he did not like the sheer.
I took a small break and then decided I was going to paint the kitchen cabinets. I've not mentioned it before, but a lot of the trim in the house, including the kitchen cabinets are/were this stale yellow colour. I'm sure it's just from age, but it was one thing that I wanted to change once we moved in. We've been here for a month, so I figured it was time to paint them.
It was also super easy and reasonably fast. No taping, just straight painting. Although it's a cosmetic thing that I'm sure no one else will notice I've changed/painted unless they saw the before, it makes me feel better, and I can tell, so that's all that matters right? Oh and the new hardware I bought for the doors looks great.
Next on the improvement list is to paint the half bath downstairs. I might paint the laundry room the same colour, but I'm not sure yet.
